I am in the middle of a computer desk project. I'm assembling it out of pre-made kitchen cabinet materials you find at a local home improvement warehouse, like Home Depot or Lowe's. I am making a 2-person desk using a 10' premade countertop with a waterfall edge. The waterfall edge makes the corners comfortable to rest your arms on. This is supported by a 12" base cabinet on each side and a 24" base cabinet in the middle. I can put my PCs inside the cabinets and other office supplies in the drawers. Later I will add wall cabinets above the countertop for more storage. A couple of things to be aware of. Tables are normally 29" high, while countertops are normally 32". I used my table saw to take 3" off the bottom of the cabinets. This area is normally for the toe-kick, but that's not important for a desk. The cabinets lost no structural integrity, I'm sure they'll stay strong. The only other issue is that computers create heat and placing them inside a cabinet could create a very warm space. I cut a 3" hole in the side of the cabinet at the bottom near the front, and another high and in the back. Computers are designed to take air in the low front and blow it out the fan in the power supply at the top-rear. I'll start with simple holes and see what convection does for me. If it's not enough I may install a PC fan blowing out in the high-rear hole. I would also consider covering the holes with a screen or grill. You never know what might crawl into a hole like that.
