Another option - perimeter drain in basement

I used to have major (2" deep puddles) in my basement every time it rained. I was unable to dig around our yard for a french drain as a new garage covered the failed french drain on one side. I opted to dig a trench along the 2 wettest sides of the inside of my basement and installed a perimeter drain which ran to a sump pump. Should the power go out, it will run into a drain that goes out the basement and down a hill. It's been bone dry for 2 years now, even with a record-setting rainfall this year in Pennsylvania. A company quoted me a price of about $7k to do this. I did it for about $300 and a ton of work.
