Laying Down Hardwood Floors

My wife and I just purchsed a new home. The dining room and a small area of the entry way is carpeted. I would really apreciate some information on how, the do's and the dont's of do it yourself hardwod flooring. The entry way is the small parquet tiles and they have done an excellent job of connecting the carpet and vinyl.
You know as well as I, that had we asked the builder to install hardwoods, the price would have been emense.
Where can I go to learn to install hardwoods and what would be the cost? The dining room is 10'6''x 11'1''. The entryway is 4'x3'.
Any and al help would be greatly apreciated.
