I'm not trying to put you down, but I don't understand how the rollers could be wider than the door. I have repaired many aluminum sliding patio doors and all of them had the rollers set up inside the bottom frame of the door where you can't see them.
Usual method of repair (actually replacement) is to lift the door out of the frame and lay it on its side so you can get at the rollers. There are many types but I have never failed to find replacements at a local home center or hardware store. The brand is usually not shown anywhere on the door, but it doesn't matter; take the bad roller to the store and match it.
