removing glue & caramel from a metal pot

I boil confectioners sugar to make caramel. Evidently one of the cans had a small leak in it, so now I have caramel that will not come off of the pot and it is extremely sticky. The glue from the can that is left there from removing the label is also stuck to the pot. What can I use to get this off?
