Normally I Agree With tomh......

And also agree with most of what he says above except for:
1)A 6 hp 2 stage would be plenty for snow up to 12 to 14 inches deep. With the deeper snow, you may have to gear down to a slower speed, but a good quality blower will handle the job. This is from personal experience with a 5hp machine. (Ariens) Also a lower hp blower will be easier to handle and start.
2) On gravel drives, (and I owned a 100 foot one that I blew out with the above blower for 10 years) you may have to add additional height skids to prevent it from picking up the gravel at the start of the season, but after winter sets in and the gravel freezes up, there is no problem.
One other point: The newer single stage paddle wheel blowers have improved greatly. I know people that use them for up to 8 to 10 inches of snow, and swear by them (not at them).
