I'd let the new paint sit for a week before taping it with a quality tape.
If the baseboard and wall are still two seperate entities, tape works OK. If that joint has been painted over repeatedly, the paint will likely squish under the tape somewhere, and you may get bits peeling off of the wall when you remove it. I really prefer freehand with a small brush in that situation, but it's time consuming.
