I had a [Rheem] RUUD Achiever furnace installed and paid for on 9/11 of this year, and I didn't realize the noise level of this device until the house was closed up for the night and it turned on. Not only is the noise from the combustion chamber deafing, but the circulating fan and resulting air flow make sleep an impossibility without the covers over your head. The installer could do nothing to alleviate this without voiding the warranty, and the manufacturer gives only vague promises of future investigation. I see this as an engineering design problem that the manufacturer can easily circumvent because there are no noise requirements on furnaces. I would like to know if someone has found a solution to this problem, other than spending more money for lawyers or another furnace?
