what to use to clean wood trim and moulding?

Posted by rb on December 10th, 2003 07:52 AM

We have beautiful wood trim, banister, staricase, and moulding throughout the house. It looks darkened (or black) in some areas on the wood work. I have used murphy's oil soap which cleaned nicely in some areas but did not seem to lighten the blackened areas. I was thinking of using a wood bleach, but feel this may strip out too much color. We just want to get rid of the dirty blackened parts of the banister and wood trim. Our goal is to clean up the wood as best as possible before some rugs are put down.

Any suggestions? Thank you. :)
