Stove Problem

In most (if not all) electric stoves have two heating elements. The upper is the broiler and the lower for baking. Which element does not come on? Have you tried your broil setting? If neither comes on, but you get the pilot light, it suggests to me that you may be on an old cartridge fuse supply and one of the fuses has blown. Which are you on, a fused or circuit breaker supply? If you have a fuse box, pull the fuses that supply your stove and check both of them with a circuit tester to determine if one is blown. If a circuit breaker, check to see if the breaker has tripped. If the stove is a plug-in unit, pull the plug and look at the contacts to ensure that they have not been overheated and corroded. If you determine that you are getting full voltage to the stove, I would then look to the elements. They should be removed (after disconnecting power) and checked for continuity to determine if either of them are burned out. If they both test good, the stove controls may be the culpret.
