The better housewrap

In reply to TYVEK vs BARRICADE vs other housewraps by Karen Mathes on March 18th, 2001 11:38 AM [Go to top of thread]

The best housewrap to use depends on what part of the country you are building in. Generally speaking, if you are building in a hot humid climate (roughly Charleston, SC or further south) you want to use a low perm housewrap. The Barricade has a perm rating of 9 and the Tyvek has a perm rating of 58, and therefore the Barricade is a much better product to use in this type of area. Up north where it's cold, a higher perm product such as the Tyvek is more suitable, but the R-Wrap is just as good and costs less. Although the saying "you get what you pay for" holds true in most situations, when it comes to a housewrap, the most expensive does not translate into the best product.

Hope this helps.
