In reply to Metal Roof Leak by Steve in Washington on December 15th, 2003 06:48 AM [Go to top of thread]

300 is about the minimum charge a roofing contractor will show up for

probaly a open seam or a actual hole in the roof. they will probally flash it ot solder it if its copper roof soldering the right way to repair

you only say metal, not what kind of metal

but the leak could be anywhere from from where its showing to the sides or up, the roofer will find the leak and fix it. no way of telling unless you look with own eyes, impossible over internet

looking for things in a contractor is #1 a license issued by local governing authority. then you can call that authority with the guys license number and ask if any complaints. like my license is from county consumer affiars office

but for a 300 dollar job, i gusss if it makes you feel better, call and ask. not like a 30,000 dollar roof, but still i guess its the ionly roof you got

also insurance is i,portant, if the roofer takes a spill and eats cement, you want his insurance to cover, or if he damage something, his insurance will cover, its called liability insurance

my area the county is named as second insured on my policy, so if i let my insurance laspe for not paying, the county is notifyed by insurance company when they tell me at the same time, so they pull my license. so when you called consumer affiars office to check any com[plaints agnist me they could also tell you if i had upto date insurance

i dont know if it works that way in your area, thats the way it is here....so if your licensed your automatically insured, here in nassau county, ny. one phone call will tell you both answeres

other than that, word of mouth, so ask neighbors and local friends if they have used a roofer recently and were happy with him, if he is lecensed then its a good bet you want to consider.

but for small jobs not every contractor is going to jump when you say, they got bigger fish to fry and bills to pay, familys to feed
