you could get it plated, but you would have to take it apart
you sure its brass . solid brass? or is it just aluminum with gold color?
they do sell patina colored paints at the higher end paint stores, with proper surface preperation i guess it could stick for a few years. but the results are questionable
if you want to experement, like tom says, do a towel bar or a shower knob and let us know the results
