It's just a lot of work....I my self would just work in a corner, if your going to replace the board behind the tile, and I'm sure you are then just tear it out with a hammer and pry bar....just make sure you make a clean cut on a stud on each side of the tube where you want to stop...it makes the repair a lot faster.
