In reply to asbestos siding by Cheryl Battle on December 19th, 2003 05:36 AM [Go to top of thread]

Greetings Cheryl,

You could talk to your local Town/City Hall and see if there is a Community Developement Department.

In some cases, if you meet the right income/need bracket, you might be able to recieve some sort of assistance. Sometimes, in the form of low interest loans.

However, asbestos siding will not harm you if you take care of it. If you don't take care of it, the odds are VERY, VERY low to NONE, that the siding will harm you, (unless a piece falls off and hits you on the head.)

Depending on how afraid of this siding people have made you, you should do one of four things;

Petrified... have it removed and re-side the home,
add loam around the base of the house to cover where the dust washed down to the ground.

Nervous... Side over the asbestos by using an insulation first, to hold the asbestos to the wall, and then installing the siding.

Knowlegeable... Patch any cracks that you may have and caulk around any areas that could develope a leak then, give it a good paint job.

Lazy... Let it weather and forget about it.

Good luck,
Jason
