Seeing dp's post about bench tops reminded me that you might want to know that I use a sheet of Homasote on mine. It absorbs glue, paint, WD-40 and other liquids nicely and if you do get a drip of glue that hardens on it, the glue pops off the Homasote easily. The other advantage is that it is soft enough that you can set your sharp chisels, planes and other tools on it without worrying about damaging the edge on them. The stuff is about 7/16" thick, if I remember right, so you can swap it for your plywood top if you are going to do other work. I get lazy and seem to always have the Homasote on the top of the bench where I usually do the staining, gluing and finishing.
