Ken, does the motor seem to operate at the speed quickly and then make the noise, or does the noise begin at startup. Given the age the bearings could be going/gone or the drive belt if present. or the bearings on the squirrel cage. Check the noise timing and if possible location. Be careful of the capacitor as they hold a charge even after being disconnected from source.
