Odor, Rodents, Michigan basement? Posted by Debi on December 23rd, 2003 07:44 AM
We just bought a cute little house, but upon possession of it an overwhelming, sickening odor greeted us at the door. We've ventilated, had pest control for rodents, had heating vents cleaned, had pest control spray for odor, put out moth balls. The odor is better, but won't go away to the point where a sensitive-nosed owner feels they can live in it.
Being on a social security income, this "dream retirement home" has turned into a nightmare. Any ideas of inexpensive ways to make the house liveable?
It has a Michigan basement with lots of rodent droppings (mouse and/or rats). The dirt ground goes up under the house. Could the walls be infested with rodent urine, etc? Would screening the dirt portion of the basement help? Would drilling holes and spraying in the walls help?
The house is in the country and does not have garbage around. The previous owner had a couple of hunting dogs that he let into the house.
It's hard to know what is really worth spending money on and what is just businesses trying to make money by suggesting things that aren't needed.
Can anybody help? Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
