you could have dead rodents in the walls. they love insulation and will hide in homes during the cold season for warmth.
I know of a person who had to tear thier walls down in the DR b/c they heard noises and the odor was strong. they also found 4 dead mice carcasses in the walls.
Before you bought the house didn't you notice the smells?????
