Find the source Posted by Henry in MI on December 23rd, 2003 08:16 AM In reply to Odor, Rodents, Michigan basement? by Debi on December 23rd, 2003 07:44 AM [Go to top of thread]
Debi, you can't cure a problem if you don't know what the problem is. You are going to have to let your nose do the work.
Start by going thru the house from top to bottom--and then from bottom to top. Where is the odor the strongest? When you get to the one or two areas that it is strongest, really investigate those areas. OK, it sort of seems to smell in the basement. Where? Is the source the floor, heat duct or???? If it's the floor, is it just in one area? Is it in the middle of the floor (dog possibility), along the walls (mice or skunk possibility) or near your laundry area (plumbing problem)?
What is the smell? You have to figure this out. You can test for mold, but you have to figure out everything else on your own practically. There are "cures", and we can help there, but we can't visit your place to do the detective work.
