Light fixture vs Fan

I currently have 3 ceiling fans w/lights that were installed by "professionals" and I cannot run the fans with the wall switch in the off position. I would like for the fans to run independently of the wall switch, and be operated by the pull chains, thus leaving the wall switch to the light only. FYI the fans were installed to replace of existing ceiling light fixtures. Any info that you might be willing to share will be greatly appreciated.
