Repair of Stanley Opener

In reply to Stanley garage door opener warning!!!! by Chris in Michigan on March 23rd, 2000 08:40 PM [Go to top of thread]

My opener has been working fine for 11 years. I have had to make a few adjustments from time to time, but no complaints. Recently, with no warning, the chain driver failed to respond to the switch. I can hear something turning, a very smooth, fairly quiet sound, but the chain does not run. I have manually checked the freedom of the chain, and the door still operates manually, so it does not seem to be jammed in any way. It sounds more like a pin has sheared of something that allows the motor to run freely without driving the chain. My question is, is it likely something I might successfully repair if I attempt to dismantle it. Anyone familiar with this problem?
