I've recently noticed fumes coming from my hot water heater when it's not running (pilot light lit only). It is a propane heater with a power vent outside the house connected via metal vent pipe. There is definitely a draft coming in the pipa and blowing the pilot light fumes into the house. The heater has been installed for 2 years and I've only noticed this recently. There have been no major changes to air flow in the house of any nature. When the heater and the vent is running there are no fumes at all. Is there a flap (check valve) in the power vent that may be stuck open?
