Hi, Cathy 7. About the only thing to protect your hardwood floors is carpeting. But that leaves nail and staple holes if you put it down permanently and it tends to slide around if you don't. The good news is that you do not have to put polyurethane on carpeting. Seriously, there is nothing that will make hardwood floors more scratch resistant. If someone had a better answer, it would be on the market.
