Shower Surround repair - Help!

I recently discovered that my daughter in taking a bath, with candles, in the main bath, has burned a hole about the size of a nickle in the tub surround. She had set the candle on one of the vinyl (?) shelves and burned the hole in the bottom of the shelf above the candle. I'm not certain as to what material the surround is made of, whether it is plastic or vinyl. How do I go about repairing this, or is it even repairable? I can't afford to replace the entire surround.
