If you mean the face of the outlet

is hot when nothing is plugged into it, it means that a wire connection or an internal part of the receptacle (outlet) is failing causing arcing. Immediately shut off the breaker to the outlet and don't use it again until repaired. Replace the receptacle and if you find you have aluminum wiring, there are special means by which you should connect the new one. Post back for further help. Luck, Kizmet
