Renovating Molding/Trim

Posted by Paul Reed on January 2nd, 2004 11:18 AM

I recently purchased an older home. At at the point where I would like to clean up all the base molding and trim (door trim included), before installing new 1/4 round. I would rather not replace any of it, because the house is plaster/lath and that's a whole nother can of worms. All of it is previously painted. I'm looking to sand, apply filler, and repaint to freshen it up. What is the best wood filler I can use for the gouges and nicks that will stick to the painted surface, is sandable, paintable, and very durable. Any other tips for this job would be appreciated.
