Ducts + ductwork

I have normal ducts in my crawl space.
problem is most of the air leaks out in both
winter and summer. I will probably Wrap each of the ducts
with insulation.

My Question is wouldnt be better to change the metal ducts with
something like pvc ducts (pipe)?
Could that be done? Should that be done?
