Sheri, unless you have some real problems with something like very little height available, you might just go to your local home center or lumber yard and look at their displays.

For a basement, where there typically is wiring, piping and other "mechanical" equipment for your house above a basement ceiling, you want to have access in case of problems. A suspended grid system is a good way to go and these are also geared for homeowner installation. There are many different looks for the acoustical panels that fit in the grid.
