I purchased a Kenmore Elite Calypso washer about 1 1/2 years ago. I've found this model to be problematic for a few reasons. First--the mildew odor every one seems to have. I do bleach loads often to combat this. The bottom of the tank never empties completely, and dank, dark, slimey stuff grows in there. Secondly, the recycling pump is a metal shaft in a teflon-like fitting. (Pays to empty pants' pockets well.) It's a double-edged sword, because you'd prefer the $27 dollar part go rather than the working part with the metal shaft. Folks--buy the repair manual. You can do most of these repairs yourselves with this manual. I did the recycling pump myself and I'm a 50-year-old woman. I just had my sons belly up the machine for me. It took 5 minutes to remove and install the new one. If you can't find the Sears manual for it, get the Whirlpool Calypso manual. Most of the working parts that die are easily accessable. When the time comes that I have to replace the puter boards, I will do that myself, too. This is a poorly-designed machine, but made so those mega-dollar housecalls will result in maximum profit for repair people. I'm rethinking ever buying a Sear's product again.
