Heat vent and window.

Both dp and tomh make good points, so my post is redundant.

The vent is there to create a thermal barrier between you inside the dwelling and the cold window. Windows typically have R values of about 3 versus typical wall R values of 15-20. Blasting the heat in front of the lower R valued area makes the house cozier, just like dp said.

If the vent is where you walk like tomh mentioned, it could easily be moved in most cases to the non-sliding side, or to the middle and still be effective as a thermal break. If it isn't in a traffic area, you'd be sorry if you moved it.
