choice of saw

Posted by Jan on January 5th, 2004 01:22 AM

I would like help in choosing the next type of saw for myself. Upcoming project include a cat tree which will mean cutting out 18"X 18" boards, maybe some circles, also cutting up pieces of 4 x 4's. I also plan a simple garden bench, and some built-in bookshelves. I have a circular saw that I'm scared to use and a jigsaw I'm comfortable with. I borrowed a miter one time and love the way it worked, but I believe there's a limit as to how wide a piece of lumber it will chop. Would a table saw be the next purchase so as to easily cut pieces of 18 x 18 x 1/2 or 20 x 36 x 1/2?
