Hi, Jason. Does he by any chance want you to change 2 slot plugs to a 2 slot and a prong plug? Does the word "ground" come to mind?
I don't know if your friend is trying to beat the high cost of labor, help out a struggling college student or wants someone to install outlets that look like they are grounded but are not? Aside from fire hazard considerations, people will be plugging computer equipment into what they think are grounded outlets and may have problems. I would obtain a copy of the code, read and follow it exactly. If your friend balks at this, I would sure consider declining the job. You could be setting yourself up for a lot of problems otherwise.
