painting formica Posted by Yale Porter on January 6th, 2004 12:56 PM In reply to PAINTING KITCHEN COUTNERS by Christa Durhack on December 29th, 2002 01:31 PM [Go to top of thread]
The most important part of painting anything is the surface preparation. For formica, clean the surface as well as you can, don't worry about minor scratches, as these will be filled by the primer and paint. Use TSP to etch the surface, and as soon as it's dry, paint with a good primer. Many posts suggest a two-part epoxy paint, but with the proper prep and careful use of the counter afterward, a latex paint, and any faux finishes, can be applied. Then seal the whole thing with polyurethane. Please make sure to allow each coat of primer, paint and poly to dry completely. Use a cutting board and keep hot pans off of it and your counter should last for quite a while. Good luck! Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
