Glass on wood stove Posted by tomh on January 7th, 2004 01:26 PM In reply to Ceramic Glass Plate for Atlanta Homesteader Needed by Kristin Wilson on January 7th, 2004 11:41 AM [Go to top of thread]
The glass on a wood stove is a pretty specialized high temperature glass, sometimes call quartz glass because it is made of molten quartz ceramic that can withstand extremely high temperature, but is transparent to infrared.
You don't mention a brand name, but your best bet to get the right size or shape is to inquire at a stove shop that deals with the brand of stove you own. They may be able to custom order or fabricate quartz glass replacements if the stove is no longer manufactured. They can also provide service to mount and seal the glass in a high temperature gasket. DO NOT try to use ordinary or tempered glass as a substitute. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
