wood for SABA floor

I am renovating my 150 year house on the island of Saba and am getting very different advice from local contractors (okay, so the builders are nicknamed "PeeWee" and "Hardtimes", so I shouldn't expect too much!) on the best type of wood to use for the floor. I want a 12" wide plank floor as in the original, but am uncertain as to the best wood to use for the envorinment.
