I would definitely make sure that the windows were double pane. I live near train tracks and recently replaced my windows with double pane vinyl and it made a big difference in the sound. Addiitonally, you could add a layer of insulation in your attic by having it blown in or you could lay it yourself. Furthermore, adding thick draperies to the windows should help as well. Good luck!
