janet when you say it happens when it has not been used for a couple of hours you mean the sound happens when no one touches toilet, it just out of no where makes a buzz? then it probally the flapper is leaking slowely and tank is draining slowely and when it gets low enough it fills itself up

simple repair, requires no tools and you be proud of yourself fixing it. turn off supply to toilet at the shutoff valve located under the back of toilet, either come out of wall or floor. turn clockwise all the way, this will shut off water to toilet

open tank, look all the way in bottom of tank, there will be a black or red or sometimes white rubber "flapper" a chain connects to to flush handle

remove chain from handle bu undoing the clip, then reach down to flapper and it justs kink of unsnaps at ears, throw it in a plastic bag and head to your local hardware store with old flapper, show to them and they sell you correct fitting replacement, installation is reverse of removal

getting chain lenght to handle is the hard part, there should be 1/2 inch slack in chain when at reat or 1/4 travel in handle before chain lifts flapper, trial and error will have you adjusting chain in 5 minutes. turn shutoff valve oppisite to open water back to toilet

now if by randomally the buzz you mean it hasppens when you FLUSH flapper is not the problem< perhaps you shutoff valve is partally closed< in this case open it up all the way> this may solve the problem> if indeed the problem is pipes in the wall there are some steps you can take> is the pipeing vivable from below like in a basement? or your pipes burried in the wall?

anyways i gave you @ options based on your details that still have me a little confused as to weather the noise happens on its own or when you physically flush it

i have no doubt you can change the flapper on your own if this is the problem

other soulitions lets hear from you again to clairify on my confusion as i state above

happy flushing!

dp

BTW AFTER PLAYING WITH SHUTOFF VALVES CHECK THEM < SOMETIMES THE WEEP WATER AS THEY DONT GET USED OFTEN< IF THIS IS THE CASE JUST SNUG UP THE PACKING NUT(NUT BEHIND SHUTOFF VALVE HANDLE

SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS
