Hi Jan. I would use a water based "FLAT WHITE" latex paint. Mix the paint with water (half paint and half water)....this will go on extremely light...but it's better to add coat on top of coat to get the whitewash effect I think you want...if you start out with too much paint in the mixture and it could coat on thick and opaque,and then you can't go back...so start with a very, very thin mixture...you can always add more and more coats...hope that helps!,
