Don't prime the surface for whitewash

dp, the whole idea behind a "whitewash" is that the surface underneath shows through...if you prime the surface that ain't gonna' happen....is it? I don't think you have grasped the effect they are looking for which is a "feaux-whitewash" surface...it's supposed to look worn..not brand new.
