Shower/tub surround

We have a garden tub/shower from the 80s. We want to remove the tub altogether and have a large shower. Question, can Corian sheeting be installed over top of the plastic tile? If so, what about the lower portion of the walls where the tub would be taken out as there would be no tiles there. Would some type of filler need to be used on that part?
