Roof venting Posted by Daniel E. Fall on January 12th, 2004 10:35 AM In reply to mold by mark on January 12th, 2004 08:55 AM [Go to top of thread]
Given you have no gable vents. I'd recommend installing ridge vent. I won't go into details, but I will tell you to use great caution if you DIY. No cutting of roof framing members is appropriate!
Sometimes what appear to be soffit vents aren't soffit vents at all. i.e. If they installed aluminum soffits, it doesn't mean you have adequate soffit venting. If you have chutes or voids in each rafter space, then you'd be fine, otherwise you might not have any soffit venting, but from below it might appear as though you have, just an FYI.
Start with the ridge vent.
Also, make sure any bath fan/kitchen fan is vented outside and not into the attic.
Finally, the attic space above your house should be the same temperature as the outside in the most ideal situation. If there is any other reason for heat or moisture in the attic, eliminate it.
