Outdoor Post Light Won't Turn Off

Posted by Jim on January 14th, 2004 03:46 AM

I have a post lamp in the front yard. It appears that there is some sort of electronic eye or sensor which should turn it off at dawn, but it doesn't work and the light is on all day. The post lamp is not controlled by any light switch in the house, so it burns 24 hours per day until the bulbs burn out. I can see what I think is the sensor, but I can't figure out how to remove it. I don't have any literature on it as it was installed by the original builder two owners ago. Can anybody tell me how I can replace the electronic eye/sensor? It's not a motion sensor, it's just a device to turn it off when it's light enough outside. I'd appreciate any help.
