Showering squealing noise

When we turn our shower on it squeals, it sounds like a rocket getting ready for lift off! How can I make it stop?!? If I adjust the shower know, it will sometimes stop, but not always. Sometimes it will stop and the reoccur, and you can't always get it to stop. It occurs year round. Help!!
