hairline crack in oil burning furnace

In reply to How many btu's should my new furnace have??? by Valerie Porter on August 18th, 2003 08:46 PM [Go to top of thread]

I was told that I have two hairline cracks in my furnace. What the home engineer/inspector showed me looks like chipped paint. My oil company examined these marks and said they are not cracks. My furnace is over 60 years old and is 83% efficient. I have no soot or smells coming from my ducts. Who should I believe? Should I be concerned? No carbon monoxide was detected during the insepection accoring to the inspector. Would there be if there was a problem?
Thank you
