As with any high-tech item unforseen problems arise that engieners and technicians overlooked during developments and testing phases. This is most certianly true for the Maytag Neptune. However many of those problems have alredy been adresssed by Maytag. The circuit board problems stem from a inadiqute door switch. When that door switch fails it passses to much current to the contorl board which then burns out. New Neptunes (post 2001) now come with a door switch that is not so prone to this problem. As far as the mold in the drum this is a non-issue if proper care is taken. Nuptune owners should simply leave the door open after each load. While this will not solve the problem in every case, in my experince this has always worked for my customers. Maytag will not tell you to do this because you have just spent 1000 dollars on a washer and many people would complain. The Neptune is not problem free but Maytag does stand behind thier product. I own a Neptune and have been very satisfied with it's performance and espically happy about my lower utility bills and the fact that one gallon of detergent has lasted me 7 months. I did have to replace the door latch assmbly and control board but I have not had a problem scince.
