Replacing Vinyl windows with wood ones

Hi,
We are considering whether we should go with vinyl or wood windows, double pane to replace the vinyl ones we current have. We live near a freeway and would like the windows to provide as much sound proofing as possible. Do wood windows provide the same amount of soundproofing as vinyl ones?
Also, in addition to the windows, what other materials should we get for the windows to help with the sound-proofing? We are also not looking to change the interior look of our home very much, and would like the exterior window to look as high-quality.
Any advice you can provide is most helpful, since we know virtually nothing about windows.
