I have a 55 year old house with the original asbestos-cement "slate" roof on it. Roof needs some work, is leaking in one spot, and all the local roofers say "tear off." I like the roof, don't necessarily like the fiberglass roofs they want to put on, and would like to keep the house close to its original style. The big concern with repairing the roof seems to be that the "slates" are very brittle and fixing a little leak may create several bigger ones. Anyone with expertise in these sorts of roofs?
