Water marks

Water marks on wood come in two different varieties; white, milky looking and black. The white marks are from water that has gotten into the finish and replaced oil there. This can be reversed by allowing oil to be available to replace the water. You do this by slathering on a layer of something oily, like Vaseline or mayonnaise, and leaving it over night. Black marks mean that water has gotten under the finish and started the growth of mold or mildew. There is no way to reverse black marks without removing the finish to remove the mildew.
