we moved to texas where the rock slabs under the ground expands and contracts, that was one reason a construction person gave us to why there are not many basements in this area most houses and apartment buildings are built on cement slabs. He did endicate that he did put in a basement but had to leave 8" between the house and basement for expansion and retraction (rise and fall).
We have been looking for houses in the area and need a little help understanding the terms realitors use for foundations. Pier & Beam foundation is this an indication that the house has a crawl-space like some construction done in Illinois?
Are there different types of Pier and Beam foundations? If so, what are they and what would be the pro's and con's of that type of foundation?
